Krista's Story
Krista was born and raised in the traditional, ancestral, unceded territories of the Squamish Nation in North Vancouver, B.C. She is a European descendant from 3rd, 4th, 5th generation Settlers. Growing up immersed in the Pacific Northwest Rainforest, she has been inspired by the natural world.
Her Treescape collection is a documentation of her wonder evoked in her childhood. She views humanity as a part of the nature and believes that by connecting to natural world we are connecting back to ourselves. Through her work she hopes to remind her viewer that we are symbiotic to our environment; we need to take care of it so it can help take care of us.
She received her training in painting at Capilano University and the University of British Columbia. She has a B.A. in Human Geography and a M.A in Art for Social Change.
Painting is powerful for myself both because it is personally therapeutic and at the same time allows me to share grander view points to the audience in a reflective way. It's something I never thought I'd actually be able to do but I am so grateful I am. I love the physicality of the paint, the challenge, the process, the focus, the commitment, and eventually the discovery of what was to be there the whole time. It's literal creation unfolding in present time in front of my eyes and there is some sort of magic in it.
