Marika's Story

Marika Morissette is a visual artist based in Burnaby, BC, celebrated for her vibrant acrylic pour paintings. Driven by a passion for creating original artwork that uplifts and inspires, Marika’s creative journey began in childhood with oil painting classes, choir singing, piano lessons, and school theatre. Although her love for the arts was always present, she pursued a different professional path, earning a B.A. in Communication Studies with honours from Concordia University and building a successful career as an executive assistant for over 20 years.

In 2021, Marika made the bold decision to leave the corporate world, dedicating herself fully to her artistic pursuits and family. Marika is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and holds memberships with several regional arts organizations. Her work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions over the past five years. Notably, she was awarded second place in the nationwide Golden Celebration Juried Art Exhibition at Gallery 1710 for her piece “Birch Kaleidoscope.”

Through her art, Marika finds freedom and joy, striving to inspire others to embrace creativity in their own lives. Her paintings are available for purchase on Etsy under the shop name MarikaFluidArt.

I am deeply passionate about creating original, beautiful artwork that invites viewers into a space of creativity and hope. My paintings are often described as unique and intriguing, reflecting my commitment to exploring new ideas and embracing the limitless possibilities that art offers.

I’m fascinated by organic structures, dynamic movements in nature, and vivid colours that bring energy to my works. My art evokes natural phenomena and invites viewers to find deeper meanings and intriguing interpretations, from the ethereal and spiritual to the visceral and sensory. I invite viewers to reflect on the intrinsic beauty and fluidity of the natural world, and to find symbolic connections and deeper meanings in my abstract works of art.
