Bicram's Story

Bicram Rijal is a Nepal-born photographer and visual anthropologist based in Metro Vancouver, whose work transforms photography into an immersive act of seeing and observing.

Exploring both physical and cultural landscapes, he uses techniques such as intentional camera movement (ICM) and the nuanced interplay of light and shadow to create abstract, painterly images. Through this process of “painting” with his camera, Bicram pushes the boundaries between photography and fine art, crafting images that encourage viewers to slow down, feel, and reimagine familiar scenes in unconventional ways.

His photographs evoke emotion and movement, reflecting his fascination with how perception shifts when form dissolves into colour, texture, and gesture. Bicram’s work has been featured in notable publications, including CBC, The Georgia Straight, and West Coast Families Magazine.
