Kristen's Story
Kristen Reiner is an Australian-born emerging abstract artist, located in Burnaby, BC. Using gestural and geometric abstraction, her pictures are often painted with a palette inspired by the natural Australian landscape.
Kristen is a mostly self-taught artist who began her journey into painting in late 2021. Now with a regular studio practice, she works primarily in acrylic paint, with more recent works using mixed media.
Kristen made her debut as an exhibiting artist this past summer at Art Downtown, where she painted and showed her work for the first time to the general public. Kristen is a member of Burnaby Artist Guild and recently exhibited in their fall show at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.
My name is Kristen Reiner and I am an emerging abstract artist from rural New South Wales, Australia.
I often create my paintings in a single sitting and believe they are an accurate representation of my unconscious mind. My pictures are a physical manifestation of the act of painting for-the-sake-of painting, the end product a visual journey for the viewer.
I draw much of my inspiration from the Abstract Expressionists and their theories, while creating a new and unique style of my own.
While looking at my work, I would hope the audience might guess my mindset at the time of painting and perhaps wonder which layer came first, which gesture influenced another. There is nothing intentionally representational to see in my pictures, they are a purely abstract in nature. Any figure a viewer might observe would be a result of their imagination interacting with my unconscious on the canvas.
