Alison's Story

Allison Chow is an artist and writer with an eye for everyday miracles that highlight the glimmering threads of magic connecting us to the world and one another. Her work often invites participation—through exhibitions, installations, or workshops—encouraging playful imagination to uncover untold stories and explore new possibilities.

A long-time resident of “Burnaby,” Allison lives and creates on the unceded homelands of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim speaking peoples, whose ancestors have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial. These spaces continue to inspire and nurture her creative practice.

This year, Allison also helped make the StrideFest “Just Imagine” poster, weaving together archival memories, the works of past StrideFest artists and scenes of friends and neighhours to gaze into the possibilities of connection.

These days, I’m fascinated by the ways art can function as research—unearthing rare gems of our subconscious and diving into the rich oceans of emotion-driven knowledge.

As a graduate of Emily Carr University of Art + Design, my practice blends visual art training with a lifelong love of disappearing into literary worlds. At its core, much of my work centers on finding hope together in difficult or seemingly impossible situations.

Inspired by the interconnectedness of the human spirit, I dream of creating physical and mental spaces that invite us to imagine, play, and reconnect with our sense of wonder.
