She/Her/Hers

Works with a vast range of materials to create micro investigations into beauty.

Ariel's Story

Working with my hands to make beauty is what I strive to do.

My first love is ceramics but after having kids the ceramic studio demands were too intense, so I switched to kitchen table possibilities; small, easily stashed micro investigations into materials and sculpture. Whether it is with paper, polypropylene line, silver solder, copper, or ceramics, I approach my making without fear and with great love and respect.

I describe my work as fun and energetic. Each piece is unique, and each material is manipulated to its greatest potential.

I see art education as a pathway to growth and communication while recognizing the value of all learners and their stories.

The Process

As an educator in the public school system for 20 years, I have had the opportunity to gain insight into how Art is administered to children in the K-12 system. I believe art education to be one of the most empowering ways to allow students to express themselves in this increasingly challenging and technically complex world in which we find ourselves. Not only can art educators tackle big ideas in the art room, but they can expand the ways in which we respond to these ideas, creating opportunities for inclusive and diverse points of view to be recognized. I see art education as a pathway to growth and communication while recognizing the value of all learners and their stories.
