Iris' Story

Iris Mes-Low, a 3rd generation Dutch-born artist, has been painting for over 30 years. Her art depicts images of her subconscious, creating surrealistic abstractions of landscapes.

Mes-Low’s approach is of tightening forms and accentuating the intensity of the environment. Her trees take on human-like characteristics as they congregate against dawning skies and urban hubs of suburbia.

Iris’ work is about that moment when you are singular in a landscape and experience quiet serenity of it. Her studio is in Vancouver, Canada.

Her approach to landscape is one of tightening up the form and accentuating the intensity present in the environ — idealistic, utopic abstractions of the scene.

The Process

Mes Low’s art is a fluid and ever-changing exchange between the canvas and images from her subconscious.

The landscape of the west coast has caught her in all its colour and ever-changing light. Her approach to landscape is one of tightening up the form and accentuating the intensity present in the environ — idealistic, utopic abstractions of the scene.

Her style is achieved through various layers of thinly applied oil paint . Each layer shimmers through, forming her signature style.
