Jane Appleby
Paints lyrical expressions of the landscape
Jane's Story
Jane Appleby is an expressive and intuitive painter who paints with the vigour of her love of life, inspired by the Canadian Landscape, often painting outdoors in the tradition of the Canadian Group of Seven – “En Plein Air.”
Laika, her dog, is often at her side.
She has been a Burnaby resident for 30 years and contributed to various community events and murals, including Charles Rummel Community Center. She is an art educator instructing workshops for schools, art centers, art groups and when possible, on cruise lines overseas.
Jane is the author of two books with inspiring art: “Between Cottage” and “The Purposeful Brush” and shares her process on her YouTube Channel: Jane Appleby Art. She is married to Ken, who have five grown children, and enjoys hiking local forests, kayaking or skiing, being in the mountains or by the ocean for inspiration.
Her work is collected internationally, and is available through her representative galleries listed on her website: www.janeappleby.com
I feel there is music in the landscape that has rhythms and movements that I connect to and express in my work.
The Process
I feel there is music in the landscape that has rhythms and movements that I connect to and express in my work. Whether the paintings are “En Plein Air” of a place or abstracted expressions on canvas, the colourful brush-work communicates the dynamic vibrancy I feel is present.
I often work “wet on wet” initially, but also add layers and use various tools for textures that offer stimulating visual journeys of colour to explore and enjoy.
