Karen's Story
I am a 58 year old, living happily in North Burnaby with my son and partner. My day time hours are spent as the Manager of Training for a Canadian Investment Firm. Whenever I can find a spare free moment, you can almost always find me in a meditative state painting. However, most recently I added a new artistic endeavor to my artistic journey.
I am currently working on the illustrations for a children’s book… which I hope to have completed early in the new year.
The old idiom, “every cloud has a silver lining” couldn’t be more descriptive of my adventure into the world of painting. As we all hunkered down in our Covid isolation, I was suddenly hit with the desire to paint. A quick call to a Craiglist ad and I was ready to paint…well at least I had the equipment and supplies. Another quick google of how to paint with acrylics and I was off to the races.
My eyes suddenly came into focus with the world around me and I couldn’t wait to paint it. Water, trees, flowers, gardens, mountains, lakes, reflections, streets…everywhere I went I got inspired.
Guided by the work of the Group of 7, Emily Carr and Van Gogh I put my trust in the process, not worrying too much about how I’ll end up accomplishing my vision. It truly is an unchartered adventure every time I start a new painting.
