Nickie's Story

Nickie Lewis is an artist residing on the unceded lands of the Tsleil-Waututh and Musqueam First Nations people, also known as Burnaby B.C. Canada. She specializes in eco-friendly art created entirely out of natural organic, and 100% biodegradable materials.  She endeavors to spread joy while bringing awareness to the preservation of our natural world.

Her most recent accomplishments include, a public display of multiple large scale projects through the ArtStarts program as an Artist in the Classroom grant recipient, a 5 month Artist in Residence for the City of Port Coquitlam, and a Canada Council Grant recipient for her work with alternative biodegradable materials on her works.

My artwork aims to evoke wonder and raise awareness of our climate crisis. By utilizing natural materials and creating impermanent pieces, I encourage viewers to be present in the moment, cherishing the memory of each work with the understanding that it may never exist in its original form again. Through playful explorations of scale and proportion, I capture a sense of whimsy that invites reflection.

Drawing inspiration from the shapes and forms found in nature, my fantastical creatures blend the strange and the familiar, inviting deeper engagement. I hope to inspire individuals to reconnect with their sense of wonder for the natural world and create an experience that is both playful and transformative.
