Peter Lattey
Peter's Story
Peter Lattey grew up in Vernon BC. He spent his youth in the mountains and lakes and developed a love for wood and natural forms. His first art training was art lessons from Ms. Topham Brown, a Vernon artist when he was 8 or 9. He studied Art and Architecture at the University of British Columbia.
His earlier work was more abstract and could best be described as Jazz music carved into wood. The forms and shapes flow sensuously with one surface flowing into another giving a delight to the eye and a feeling to the soul. He now explores the expressions of the human face. His current work is “Masks from My Mind”, and “Being in a Box” pieces of a Human Being in a box to emerge when the door is opened. Each being is happy in it’s own little box. Just as we are all in our own beautiful little box.
Masks from My Mind explore different emotions and expressions. People connect with the faces in different ways depending on how a particular face connects with that individual. The mystery of that emotional or intellectual connection is what Peter strives to achieve.
Sometimes I put a “Being in a Box”. This is another exploration of the expressions and meaning of the human face. Each little box opens to reveal a beautiful “Being in a Box”. Just as we are all in our own beautiful little box.
